This St. Patrick’s Day, Gainesville is getting lucky with STRFKR’s first time performing in the city.
The band is touring the U.S. and will make six stops in Florida, from as far north as Pensacola to as south as Miami.
Their music can be described as indie dance music. With electric elements paired with dreamy high-ranging vocals, the music fits perfectly in a place like Arcade Bar or a hipster house party. The band started in 2007 with their song “Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second” being the hit that most people know them for.
“I love how light and airy the atmosphere of the songs are, while still broaching pretty serious and sometimes existential themes,” said self-proclaimed big fan, Livvi Anne, 28. The UF biomedical sciences doctoral student has never seen the band perform but has been a supporter since 2011 and is excited to finally see them live.
Pat Lavery, High Dive owner, is also excited for STRFKR’s first show in Gainesville.
“Like Gainesville, STRFKR is a firmly independent artist with a style all their own,” he said.
Lavery expects tickets to sell out. Tickets can be bought online for $20 or at the door for $22. The event is 18 and older, but those under 21 will be charged a $3 fee at the door.
Attendees can enter through Beer Garden an hour before doors open at 8 p.m. For those in the St. Patrick’s Day spirit, green Jell-O shots will be readily available.
Joshua Hodges, Shawn Glassford, Keil Corcoran and Patrick Morris are currently touring across the United States as STRFKR. They'll take the stage at the High Dive Sunday night.
