Comedian Jaboukie Young-White will be joking around at UF on April Fools’ Day.
Young-White will perform a stand up routine at 7 p.m. April 1 at Reitz Union Grand Ballroom. The Reitz Programming Board will host the comedian, known from his appearances on the Daily Show, which is a satirical news show, said Lindsay Gowens, president of the Reitz Programming Board. Young-White will be payed $10,500 for his performance, Gowens said.
“His stand up pieces were the ones that [the board] thought were the funniest,” she said.
The event is only for UF students, who can enter free with a Gator 1 Card, Gowens said. The space can fit 450 people.
This Friday’s Big Orange Festival, an annual festival that usually brings a comedian and musician, will be set outside and host Noah Cyrus for $65,000.
The added expenses of setting up outside meant a comedian wasn’t booked for the festival, Gowens said. Because of this, planners wanted to bring a comedian for this event.
“We wanted to make sure that we had a big comedy-focused event to sort of appeal to that group of students who may be missing that,” she said.
Emani Green, a 21-year-old UF animal science senior said she and her friend will attend the performance.
“Me and her are actually pretty big fans,” Green said. “I’ve seen some of his stand ups on ‘The Tonight Show,’ and I think he’s hilarious.”
