Gainesville Police are looking for two unknown men who tried to break into a woman’s apartment near campus early Friday morning.

A woman told police she heard a knock on her door at Wood River Apartments, at 920 SW Depot Ave., at about 1 a.m., according to a UF Public Safety Alert. When she opened the door slightly, a man with a black and silver handgun tried to push his way inside.

She pushed back and screamed for help to get neighbors to come outside, said GPD spokesperson Lt. Jorge Campos at a press conference Friday afternoon. Another man who was standing in the stairwell ran away with the armed man.

The two men got into a grey Dodge Challenger and drove away, Campos said.

UF Public Safety tweeted to warn students about the incident. The investigation is ongoing, Campos said.

Anyone with information can call GPD at 352-955-1818 or Alachua County Crime Stoppers at 352-372-STOP to remain anonymous.
