University Police are looking for a serial thief after he struck again Monday.

James William McCray, 38, is accused of taking a laptop at Weimer Hall, according to University Police.

Police recognized McCray on security footage and filed a warrant for his arrest, said UPD Lt. Jeff Moran. McCray has trespassed multiple times on campus within the last eight years and was arrested for theft and burglary.

McCray is known to target libraries and steal laptops, computer equipment and phones, Moran said.

“He’s not really a stranger to us,” Moran said.

Daron Dean, a UF photojournalism adjunct professor, called police after he noticed his $3,300 Macbook Pro was missing from his classroom, said UPD spokesperson Major Brad Barber.

Dean left his classroom unlocked for about 10 minutes Monday morning to get coffee. When he came back, the laptop was gone.
