A couple’s trip from Daytona Beach to Gainesville Sunday morning ended with a drug deal gone wrong and jail time, Gainesville Police said.
Police are looking for the two men who stole a man’s iPhone and a box of marijuana from his car, GPD spokesperson Ofc. Ben Tobias wrote in an email.
Quade Lorenzo Fachone Eubanks, 20, and Billie Ann Carter, 19, of Daytona Beach, were arrested after two men robbed Eubanks in a parking lot on Northwest 15th Street, behind the Chipotle on West University Avenue, according to arrest reports. Eubanks and Carter were there for a drug deal, police said.
Eubanks was talking with the two men while Carter was sitting in the passenger seat of Eubanks’ car. After the men stole Eubanks’ phone at gunpoint, one of the two men walked up to Carter and said Eubanks told him to get something from the trunk, the report said.
Eubanks fought with the second man over control of the gun, the report said. The man fired the gun at least once, but no one was hit by a bullet. The man hit Eubanks in the head with the gun while the man who spoke with Carter grabbed a box from the trunk and ran away, police said.
When police arrived they found several shoes left behind, Tobias said. Carter walked up to police barefoot and led them to Eubanks, who was across the street.
Police saw a bag carrying 10 grams of marijuana in plain sight in the front passenger side of Eubanks’ Toyota and searched the rest of the car. Police found an unloaded 9mm handgun underneath the driver’s seat, pieces of marijuana littered in the trunk, a bag carrying 15 grams of Xanax and four vials of marijuana vaporizing cartridges, the report said.
Carter was charged with one count of possessing drugs to sell and one count of possessing drug paraphernalia, according to an arrest report. She was released from Alachua County Jail Monday night.
Eubanks was charged with three counts of possessing drugs to sell, one count of possessing drug paraphernalia and one count of possessing a concealed firearm, the report said. He is held in jail in lieu of a $27,000 bond.
The men who robbed Eubanks were last seen driving north on Northwest 14th Street either a BMW or Mercedes-Benz, according to a UF Public Safety email.
Eubanks and Carter would not name the two men, and the investigation is ongoing, Tobias said. Police are asking anyone with information to call Alachua County Crime Stoppers at 352-372-STOP.
