Florida rapper YNW Melly started from SoundCloud, a popular music sharing site, and now he’s here.
The show is open to those 18 and up, with general admission tickets on sale now for $20 and VIP tickets for $30. Tickets can be purchased through eventbrite.com or the Simon’s Facebook page. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the venue for $25. Doors open at 10 p.m. sharp.
The 19-year-old artist from Gifford, Florida, will make his debut Gainesville performance this Saturday. YNW Melly will be headlining the “Blue Balenciaga Night” at Simon’s night club, located at 8 S. Main St.
Nearly 800 people are expected to attend the show presented by Brokelife Phet, head promoter and event coordinator. This will mark the 20-year-old Gainesville native’s third show as a promoter of public events.
“We hoping to get 1,000 people if we can. It’s stressful but we doing it,” he said. “We got a couple artists opening and a DJ playing music before and in between performances.”
Local rappers $lim T, 100K and Shoogang will each hit the stage before YNW Melly’s performance. Like YNW Melly, Phet says the opening artists range from ages 19 to 20 and offer a fresh, new feel to Gainesville’s rap scene.
DJ melloblendz will lay down the hottest beats to hype up the crowd in between the artists’ performances.
“He’ll be there, mixing and chopping it up,” Phet said.
Phet describes YNW Melly’s vibe as “charismatic and something different,” setting him apart from other rappers in the game. For more, listeners will have to experience this self-made up-and-comer’s performance in person.
“(YNW Melly)’s from Florida and he’s on the come up,” he expressed.
Phet compares YNW Melly’s sound, style and flow to an even younger Young Thug.
He describes how the similarity between the two can be seen in how they make hype music that is delivered through both vocals and rap — a variety that everyone can enjoy.
“Y’all can expect good people coming out and some hype live music,” he said. “It’s gonna be lit.”
