A man was shot and killed Saturday morning at an apartment complex off West University Avenue.
Around 7:30 a.m., Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of an emergency at Fox Hollow Apartments, located at 7301 W. University Ave., according to an ACSO’s Facebook post.
The deputies discovered the body of 21-year-old Jeremy Provin with a bullet wound in his chest.
Provin was from Jacksonville and had been staying in an apartment with Montric Thomas Jr., 21, for the past several months. After the incident, a resident of the apartment was able to tell a neighbor, who then contacted the sheriff’s office.
Thomas Jr. was in the apartment when the victim died but left in a resident of the apartment’s Ford Focus before deputies arrived, according to an ACSO media release. ACSO Public Information Officer Brett Rhodenizer said Thomas Jr. left and was headed to the Jacksonville area.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was able to contact Thomas Jr.’s family in Jacksonville, Rhodenizer said. His family and JSO were able to convince him to talk with detectives at the sheriff’s office in Jacksonville.
Thomas Jr. arrived at JSO’s office Saturday afternoon and was arrested on a warrant from ACSO soon after for murder, tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm by a delinquent and tampering with a victim, witness or informant.
He will be brought to Alachua County in the coming days, according to ACSO’s media release. His bond is set at $1.8 million, according to JSO’s Department of Corrections.
