The semester may be winding down, but that doesn’t mean there’s a shortage of things to do in Gainesville. Whether you like movies, music or the outdoors, there’s something for everyone. In addition to our other coverage this week, here are the best places to spend your weekend.

Wanee Music Festival 2018 at Spirit of The Suwannee Music Park
For those willing to make the trek to Spirit of The Suwannee Music Park (about an hour north of Gainesville) and spend an extra buck, Wanee Festival is a great place to get away for the weekend. This four day jam festival will feature bands like Widespread Panic, Phil Lesh, The Terrapin Family Band, As The Crow Flies and Dark Star Orchestra. The festival will take place from April 19 to 21. Friday
“Please Stand By” at The Hippodrome Cinema
This Friday at 7:30 p.m., The Hippodrome Cinema will begin screening “Please Stand By,” a “dramady” starring Dakota Fanning as Wendy, a young woman with autism who attempts to win a “Star Trek” writing competition. Saturday
Alpine Tower Gator Open Climb at Lake Wauburg
For those who want to get their blood pumping this weekend, UF RecSports will host an open climb event at Lake Wauburg’s South Shore from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Attendees can come out to climb the 40-foot tall Alpine Tower, and no registration or group is necessary. Just bring your Gator 1 Card and you’re good to climb.
SLAY! A Party Fit For A Queen at University Club
Student-run record label Swamp Records will host their celebration of Pride Awareness Month at University Club this Saturday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. The event will feature both live drag performances and DJ Phucket on the decks throughout the night. Wristbands are available for $10 at the door.
Sunday
Abe Partridge at Loosey’s
If you’re still wanting to keep the weekend going come Sunday, punk folk and Americana musician Abe Partridge will bring his talents to Loosey’s at 7 p.m. With both light acoustic pieces and grittier, more punk-influenced tracks, attendees can expect Partridge to play various tracks from his latest album, “Cotton Fields and Blood For Days.” Local musician Kyle Keller will provide opening support for Partridge.
