The newly opened Taco Bell, located at 1404 W. University Ave., will host an event from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday to invite customers to buy 50-cent tacos, among other food.
During its customer appreciation weekend, the restaurant will raffle off a 50-inch TV, gift cards, and T-shirts, said Kayla Lampp, the Mexican fast-food chain’s general manager. Lampp said she hopes the event will attract the college students who weren’t in town for the soft opening in December.
“It’s kind of like to tell them, you know, we’re here right across from the school, and we’re ready for them now,” she said.
Although customers can munch on all the quesaritos and crunchwraps their hearts desire, they’ll have to wait a bit longer for booze-filled Baja Blasts, their Mountain Dew-flavored signature drinks. The cantina doesn’t have an anticipated date for a liquor license yet, Lampp said.
“That’s something we were looking into later on down the line,” she said.
Gabrielle Grilli, a UF English junior, said she has quickly become one of the cantina-style Taco Bell’s most loyal customers.
“I’m like kind of obsessed with Taco Bell, so I’ve been there quite a few times so far,” she said.
Despite a busy weekend, the 20-year-old doesn’t plan on passing up 50-cent tacos and giveaways.
“I think it’s really nice being so close to the campus because it’s going to make people want to go there,” she said.
