Overnight, Gainesville Police responded to two armed robberies, one of a pizza delivery driver and another at a Waffle House.
Officers responded to the first robbery at 10:36 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis Place at Ironwood Apartments on Northeast 15th Street, the Gainesville Police said. The other occured at the Waffle House on 3919 SW 40th Blvd. at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. Both cases are ongoing investigations.
In the apartment parking lot, a man with a knife approached a pizza driver from behind, police said. The driver tried to fight him off with a clipboard, but the driver fell and the man took the clipboard, which had $20. The man rode away on a bicycle.
Later at the Waffle House, two mask-wearing men with guns stole an disclosed amount of cash from the register and asked for money from the safe, but employees didn’t have access, police said. One of the men wore gloves. A police dog led officers to the parking lot, which suggests the men left in a vehicle.
Anyone with information on either case is urged to call GPD at 352-955-1818 or CrimeStoppers at 352-372-STOP.
