A professional WWE wrestler was arrested in Gainesville on Saturday for physically forcing his wife into their car, Gainesville Police said. His wife is also a professional wrestler.
Richard Allen Swann, 26, and his wife Vannarah Riggs, known in the ring as Su Yung, were arguing after Riggs had finished a show at :08 nightclub, and Swann was critiquing her performance, according to an arrest report. Swann, who goes by Rich Swann, was driving near the 2400 block of Southeast Hawthorne Road when Riggs got out of the car to get away from him at about 10:30 p.m.
Swann stopped his car in the middle of traffic and chased after his wife, yelling for her to get back in the car, police said. She told him she didn’t want to get back in the car, so he grabbed her by her arm and neck, put her in a headlock and dragged her back to the car, according to the report.
Two witnesses saw Swann chase after Riggs, and one told police Swann didn’t park his car before jumping out. The car continued to roll until it hit a telephone pole on the corner of Northeast 15th Street and East University Avenue.
Riggs told police she was afraid of Swann because he has a temper sometimes and she was worried their argument would become violent, according to the report. Riggs said Swann wouldn’t let her get out of the car, so she jumped out while it was moving slowly.
After his arrest, Swann told detectives he never touched Riggs and was just trying to go back to his Orlando home.
Swann was arrested on charges of domestic simple battery and false imprisonment. He remains in Alachua County Jail, as of press time, in lieu of no bond.
