Senior Jan Switkowski’s performance was hard to beat on the first day of the Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette, Indiana. On the second day of the meet, he did precisely that.
Switkowski notched one individual win and two second place finishes in relay events at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center on Day 2 of the invitational. His win in the men’s 400 individual medley led the way as three other Gators placed in the top four spots.
The UF men’s team continued their success from the first day, with sophomore Khader Baqlah placing second in men’s 200 freestyle and freshman Michael Taylor emerging victorious in the 100 backstroke. The men’s team ended the day with a score of 667, putting them at the top of the leaderboards heading into day three.
The UF women’s team still doesn’t have a win after day two, but performed well nonetheless. Sophomores Kelly Fertel and Savanna Faulconer placed second and third in the 400 yard IM event, respectively, and sophomore Emma Ball placed second in the 100 backstroke event. Sophomore Kelsey Dambacher rounded out the Gators’ podium finishes, placing third in the 200 freestyle.
The women’s team finished day two with a score of 459.5, putting them in second place overall behind Indiana University.
The men on the UF diving squad continued their struggles on Friday, failing again to qualify for the final after missing it on the first day of the invitational. Redshirt senior Dalton Goss placed 14th in the 3-meter dive and sophomore Alex Farrow placed 16th.
The women weren’t quite as successful on the 1-meter as they were on the 3-meter on Day 1, with sophomore Brooke Madden placing the highest in the seventh spot. Freshman Emma Whitner, who placed third on the 3-meter on the first day of the invitational, missed out on the 1-meter final, placing 20th.
Preliminaries for the final day of the invitational will begin at 10 a.m on Saturday, with finals set for 6 p.m
