After the former UF Dean of Students resigned in May, UF will bring four potential candidates to campus in the next two months.
The Division of Student Affairs is hosting on-campus interviews that UF students, faculty and staff can attend. Information on prospective candidates, including their resumes, is available at ufsa.ufl.edu/about/searches.
Ron Anderson, UF’s ombudsman and search committee chair, said the interviews will be an opportunity for candidates to better understand UF and talk to the community.
“We want to make sure our faculty, staff, and most importantly, students have the opportunity to meet each candidate and lend their voice and opinions to this search,” Anderson said.
Provided evaluations will be reviewed to make a hiring decision, Anderson said.
The first interview, with Mary Ann Begley, will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Reitz Union Chamber. The remainder of the interviews will continue after Thanksgiving break, Anderson said.
The former Dean of Students, Jen Day Shaw, resigned after positively recommending a UF employee fired for purchasing pornography at work, according to Alligator archives.
Tommy Lower, a 20-year-old UF marketing junior, said he is planning to attend the on-campus interviews and wants to contribute to the conversation.
“It’s important to actually hear students’ voices and get a vibe of what they feel,” Lower said. “I think it’s not only good, but it’s vital to the search for the new (dean of students).”
