At least three UF students and a UF Health Shands Hospital resident were arrested this weekend, and six students were told to leave Ben Hill Griffin Stadium during the UF football game.
Although University Police didn’t arrest anyone during the football game, officers removed 15 people, six of whom were students, from the stadium for possessing alcohol, being intoxicated, having no ticket or a fake Gator 1 Card, disorderly conduct or being in the wrong section, according to a UPD press release.
About two hours after the football game ended at about 7 p.m., Ashley Paola Beade, 20, was found by Gainesville Police officers asleep at the wheel at the stoplight of Gale Lemerand Drive and Southwest Archer Road, with the car in drive, according to an arrest report. Officers said they had trouble waking up Beade and had to put the car in park when it began rolling.
Police said Beade smelled like alcohol, stumbled while she walked and leaned on a patrol car to keep her balance. Police asked her for her driver’s license several times and said she gave her phone number when asked for her address.
She told police she had three shots of vodka, according to the report.
Beade was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence. Police said her blood alcohol content was 0.212 and 0.196, which is more than double the legal limit.
After Beade was released from the Alachua County Jail, she said she was ashamed but grateful no one was hurt.
“I wish I could go back,” she said. “This isn’t who I am.”
About six hours after the football game ended, a witness saw Andrew Jeffrey Martin, 31, throw a rock into a glass door at the Florida Gym and went inside, according to an arrest report. Martin, who is a first-year general surgery resident at Shands, sprayed a fire extinguisher in a hallway in the building, police said. He told officers he had too much to drink and was “just being stupid.”
Martin was arrested on charges of burglary, criminal mischief and obstructing the extinguishment of fire.
Another student was arrested after a Florida Department of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco officer saw her holding an alcoholic drink at Midtown on Friday at about 10:58 p.m., according to an arrest report. Police said she refused to answer questions and was charged with obstructing justice and possessing alcohol.
Samuel Joseph Stein, 19, was in Fat Daddy’s, located at 1702 W. University Ave., when a GPD officer saw him holding a Corona bottle, according to the report. He told the officer he was 22 years old but had lost his driver’s license.
Police couldn’t find a person in their computer records who matched the false name and date of birth Stein gave them, according the report. Police said they found two driver’s licenses on Stein, one that was fake and another that belonged to someone else.
Stein was arrested on charges of possessing a fake driver’s license and alcohol while under 21.
Beade and Stein are UF students, according to the UF directory.
Beade, Martin and Stein were taken to the Alachua County Jail and released on their own recognizance over the weekend.
Martin declined to comment, and Stein couldn’t be reached for an interview.
