A small group of men were detained by police Tuesday after two allegedly threatened and struck another man in the chest with a shotgun near Southwest 13th Street.

Gainesville Police said officers responded to a call at about 3:25 p.m. from the man who said two people pointed a shotgun at him. The man said the two men hit him in the chest with the muzzle and pulled him inside their third-floor apartment at Campus View Place, located at 1240 SW Ninth Road, said GPD spokesperson Officer Ben Tobias.

The man was injured in the chest and eye before he escaped the apartment and ran to neighboring The Retreat Apartments, located at 1001 Southwest 17th Lane, where he called police, Tobias said.

When responding officers knocked on the door of the apartment, a group of men tried to escape by scaling down the wall of the building to the complex parking lot from their third-floor balcony. The men were detained and police searched the apartment, Tobias said. Officers found marijuana, baggies and a shotgun. Tobias said it was possible drugs were being sold in the apartment.

As of press time, no arrests have been made and police are still drafting an incident report, Tobias sad.

The investigation is ongoing, he said.
