A Gainesville man was hospitalized following a car crash and was arrested for driving drunk Friday, Florida Highway Patrol said.
Paul Nelson Misleh, 66, was taken out of his overturned white Chrysler PT Cruiser on the shoulder of State Road 235 with the help of an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputy and taken to North Florida Regional Medical Center at about 8:40 p.m., according to an arrest report. A FHP patrolman saw an empty Budweiser beer bottle and five unopened Bud Light beer bottles in the car. Spilled ice from a cooler in the car covered the beers.
About an hour and a half after the crash, the patrolman went to the medical center and saw Misleh walking away from the hospital’s entrance with the help of someone else, the patrolman said.
“I’m going to jail,” Misleh said, when the patrolman introduced himself, according to the report.
Misleh told the patrolman he had gone to a party and didn’t remember the crash, FHP said.
The patrolman smelled alcohol on Misleh’s breath and noticed he had a staggered walk and was using a wall to keep his balance, according to the report. Misleh also slurred his words, FHP said.
Misleh was arrested for driving under the influence and taken to the Alachua County Jail. He was released on his own recognizance Saturday at noon.
Misleh could not be reached for comment.
