On Nov. 9, X Ambassadors and Real Estate will perform in the first free concert of the school year.
The concert, which will be on Flavet Field at 7 p.m., is open to the public and does not require tickets. All students have to do is show up, Alex DesRosiers, the Student Government Productions chairman, wrote in an email.
The artists will be paid a combined total of $97,500, with $72,500 going to X Ambassadors and $25,000 going to Real Estate, DesRosiers said. The show is expected to cost about $150,000, but final costs won’t be known until the show is done, DesRosiers said.
DesRosiers said they chose the band because of their popularity in the rock genre.
“They have a history of playing outdoor festivals such as Bonnaroo and Coachella in the past,” he said. “We feel the combination of the two acts will make for a great evening of music out on Flavet.”
DesRosiers said he’s expecting about 6,000 to 8,000 students to attend, but would like to see more.
“Being a member of the University of Florida is more than just being a student. It is also being part of the community here,” DesRosier said. “This event, like many others, is a chance to come out, relax and enjoy a stress-free evening with that community.”
Danielle Gray, a UF marketing freshman, said she has been listening to X Ambassadors for about two years and plans to attend the concert.
“I’m a fan of theirs, and I’ve never seen them live before,” the 18-year-old said. “Plus it’s free, and it’s right here on campus.”
Gray said she’s never heard of Real Estate, who will open the show, but was happy to discover them.
“I’m excited to learn about their music and I might actually search some of their stuff up before so I know what to expect,” Gray said.
