Gainesville Police is searching for a suspect after a woman was robbed at gunpoint early Sunday morning.
Police said the woman was riding her bike near 900 NE Seventh Ave. at about 2 a.m. when a man in a car called her over, Officer Ben Tobias, a GPD spokesperson, wrote in an email.
When the victim went over to the car, a man exited the car with a handgun and said, “Hey, I'm robbing you.” The victim told the man she didn’t have any money, and she would cancel her credit cards before they could be used, Tobias said.
The man rifled through the victim’s fanny pack, told her she was “kind of cute” and then slapped her on the buttocks, Tobias said. The man got back into his car and left, the victim told police.
Because it was so late at night, the victim went to sleep and reported the incident to police later that day at about 1 p.m. She described the man as 6-foot-1, 175 pounds and wearing a black ski mask, a black shirt and black pants, Tobias said.
GPD is increasing overnight patrols in the area. They ask anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 352-372-STOP.
