“Goosebumps” author R.L. Stine will visit UF on Oct. 24 in celebration of Halloween.
Accent Speakers Bureau announced the speaker Wednesday during their first event of the year.
The SG agency is paying Stine $27,500 for a speech and Q&A about the legacy of his books, what it feels like to be a top-selling author and his creative process, said Accent Chairwoman Shelby Buchanan.
Students can pick up tickets at noon Oct. 23 at the University Auditorium. Each student can get two tickets with a valid Gator 1 Card. The general public can pick up tickets, if any are left, at the same location on Oct. 24. The event will be Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. in the University Auditorium, located at 333 Newell Drive.
In their student survey, Buchanan said people requested either children’s authors or horror authors, and the bureau decided to mix both requests.
She said she thinks Stine’s visit will make students feel nostalgic.
“October is the month in the middle of the semester where everyone starts getting homesick, so we wanted to give people a warm and fuzzy feeling,” Buchanan said.
Alexandra Lanal, a UF telecommunication senior, said she started reading horror when she was 6-years-old, and Stein was her favorite author.
If she gets to ask him a question, Lanal said she’ll ask how he’s written so much.
“I can barely write an essay for a class, and here he is writing books all the time,” the 21-year-old said.
