Swamp Records announced their third flagship artist, flipturn, on Friday.
Swamp Records, a student-run record label representing local bands, signed the five-member indie/alternative rock band as part of a collection of main performers that the record company represents. Swamp Records is a UF student organization that doesn’t receive university funding.
The members of the band are bassist Madeline Jarman, a 19-year-old UF telecommunications sophomore; synth player Taylor Allen, an 18-year-old UF public relations freshman; singer and guitarist Dillon Basse, a 20-year-old Jacksonville University communications sophomore; drummer Adrian Walker, a 19-year-old Santa Fe College music business sophomore; and lead guitarist Tristan Duncan, a 20-year-old University of North Florida music technology sophomore.
Swamp Records discovered the group because Jarman, the band’s bassist, helped book new bands for the label during her freshman year.
“I experienced how amazing of an organization it is,” Jarman said. “I had to drop my position in (Swamp Records), but it’s definitely worth it.”
The group stands out among Swamp Records’ lineup because its members are the youngest artists to sign with the label, said Tali Ursel, the band’s Swamp Records representative and a 19-year-old UF telecommunications sophomore.
Swamp Records already began promoting flipturn as their new flagship band with a countdown on social media leading up to their reveal. They revealed the new group Friday in a live-streamed flipturn show on Facebook.
The band’s next local show will be Oct. 10, at 8:30 p.m. at High Dive, located at 210 SW Second Ave. Tickets are being sold for $6 pre-sale and $8 at the door.
Walker, the band’s drummer, said he thinks the Swamp Records deal will benefit the group.
“I know that Swamp Records will help open doors for us such as playing with bigger artists and playing bigger venues,” Walker said.
