The phrase “This is... The Swamp” will be illuminated for all to see during night football games at the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

The stadium’s wing wall signs, which are now illuminated, were remodeled in June. The new wall signs officially lit up for the first time Sept. 7.

The University Athletic Association spent $79,000 on the new illuminated signs, said Senior Associate Athletics Director Steve McClain.

“We thought the upgrade would be a nicer, cleaner look,” said Assistant Athletics Director Alicia Longworth.

The illuminated signs still have the same messages prior to the upgrade, “This Is…  Gator Country” and “This is… The Swamp.” All of the championship dates were also replaced with the new signs. The upgrades come one month after the UAA added an electronic ribbon board around the stadium.

The UAA partnered with Gainesville Neon & Signs for the nearly four-month-long project to upgrade the signs.

Kallie Carlton, an 18-year-old UF health science freshman, and her family have been UF football season ticket holders for 40 years. Carlton is looking forward to the new additions to the stadium.

“As a longtime Gator fan, I think these new wing walls will really amp up the stadium I’ve grown up loving,” Carlton said.
