Chandler

A Gainesville woman was arrested early Friday morning for attempted murder, Gainesville Police Department said.

Cheyenne Dominique Chandler, 21, walked into a woman’s house near Fred Cone Park, located at 2841 E University Ave., uninvited Aug. 20 and began verbally fighting with her over a mutual friend. The fight turned physical, according to an arrest report.

During the fight, the woman saw that Chandler had a handgun, which fell onto the street while they were fighting. The fight ended, and the woman began to walk away, according to the report.

Chandler picked up the gun and shot the woman as she was leaving. The woman was hit in the right thigh, and Chandler fled the scene, according to the report.

One witness heard Chandler tell the woman she would shoot her, police said.

GPD has had a warrant out for Chandler’s arrest since the incident took place, GPD spokesperson Ben Tobias wrote in an email.

Tobias said Alachua County Sheriff’s Office delivered Chandler’s warrant to her at her mother’s house. Chandler was arrested without incident on a charge of attempted premeditated homicide, and authorities took her to Alachua County Jail.

Chandler remains in jail, as of press time, in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
