On Saturday’s Fight Night between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor, some students were faced with a dilemma: the cost.
To bypass the program cost of about $100 per viewer, Jonah Arterburn, an 18-year-old finance freshman, and his floormates hosted a watch party in Weaver Hall’s basement and welcomed all students to attend. More than 200 people showed up to the event, which did not require guests to pay.
Arterburn and his floormates planned the event in about four days. Guests were asked to make a donation, and Arterburn said he made about $200.
Arterburn plans to use the $100 profit to host future events like Ultimate Fighting Championship fights, “Game of Thrones” watch parties or other events on campus.
“I think every now and then, especially in sports, there’s certain things that go down in history,” Arterburn said. “It’s really just about making memories and hanging out with friends and cherish one of the greatest fights ever.”
