A Gainesville man was arrested early Sunday morning after an altercation with a store clerk at a Circle K, Gainesville Police Department said.

David Alan Miles, 26, went to the Circle K, located at the corner of West University Avenue and Northeast 13th Street, at about 4:40 a.m. Sunday to get gas. Miles left the store without paying for the gas and tried to pump $10 worth of gas into his car, according to an arrest report.

When the pump did not work, Miles went back into the store and asked the clerk why the pump was not working. The clerk told Miles that he left without paying, according to the report.

Miles became very upset and began throwing merchandise at the clerk, hitting the clerk with a few candy bars and a plastic lottery paper holder, police said.

Miles also pushed the lottery machine off the counter, breaking it and the glass on top of the counter, causing about $3,050 worth of damage, according to the report. Miles was dragged out of the store by his friends in an effort to stop him from breaking more items, officers said.

The incident was caught on a surveillance video.

Miles was arrested for battery and criminal mischief. He was taken to Alachua County Jail where he remains, as of press time, in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
