After a gunshot was heard in an apartment building near UF’s campus and Sorority Row on Friday, Gainesville Police are searching for three suspects of a home invasion.
At about 11:35 a.m., a Lyncourt Square apartment resident called 911 and said she heard a loud pop — which was likely a gunshot — and saw three men run from the fifth floor and down the stairs of her apartment building, located at 1218 SW Third Ave., according to a GPD press release.
From preliminary investigation, officers suspect the incident was likely a targeted home-invasion robbery, according to the release.
Police found blood in hallways and stairwells and believe that at least one gunshot was fired.
At least two suspects could be seen in video surveillance from the time of the incident. Police described both recorded suspects as black men under 25. One suspect was described as thinly built with a short hair cut and no facial hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a red hoodie. The other suspect has short hair and some facial hair, according to the press release. He was wearing blue jeans and a black and white hoodie.
The third suspect’s description is unknown.
At 12:32 p.m. Friday, UF released an alert about the crime, citing that it occurred near campus and Sorority Row, where many students live.
Police believe the suspects have left the area and present no danger to the public, according to the press release.
The suspected robbery occurred at Lyncourt Square apartment, at 1218 SW Third Ave.
