Hours after the Fourth of July’s end, three separate drive-by shootings took place in Gainesville.

The first drive-by shooting occurred Wednesday morning at about 2 a.m. at the 900 block of Northwest Fourth Place. In an email, Gainesville Police spokesperson Officer Ben Tobias wrote that the first victim, who was in a parked car, was not hurt.

About an hour later, police received reports of another shooting less than two miles away from the first. While in her car at the 300 block of Northeast 11th Street, a woman in her late 20s was shot in the neck by the suspect, who was in his/her respective vehicle. The woman is expected to survive her injuries, Tobias said.

Shortly after the second drive-by shooting, at 3:45 a.m., a group of people standing outside of a parked car at the 200 block of Southwest Sixth Avenue were shot at by a passing vehicle, Tobias said.

One man was shot in the torso and leg, with his injuries being considered serious, Tobias said.

Police have identified the suspect vehicle in all three shootings as a white 2000-2005 Buick LeSabre.

Tobias said drive-by shootings in Gainesville are rare.

“We don’t have any reason to believe the shootings are in any way connected to the (Fourth of July) holiday,” he said.
