One one-hundredth of a second was all it took to halt Skylar Ross-Ransom from advancing through the field of the women’s 100-meter hurdles.
A ninth place finish of 13.11 seconds on Thursday night came up just short of making the cut for the event final.
In addition to Ross-Ransom’s non-qualifying time, Shayla Sanders failed to advance to the final of the women’s 100-meter following her 14th place finish with a time of 11.44 seconds.
However, despite some disappointing finishes for the pair of UF seniors, day two of the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon saw some successful results for the Gators.
Florida’s relay team placed first in the 4x100 qualifier with a time of 42.91.
Sophomore Sharrika Barnett also qualified for the final in the 400-meter following a third-place finish of 51.67 seconds.
The women’s long jump final concluded with junior Darrielle McQueen finishing 10th, jumping 6.33 meters, and sophomore Yanis David finishing 17th, jumping 6.01 meters.
Junior Lloydricia Cameron also finished seventh in the finals for shot put, throwing 17.28 meters, and senior Marija Vucenovic took home second place in the women’s javelin throw final with a distance of 58.58 meters. The throw beat her personal best of 57.81 meters and moved her into second on UF’s all-time list in the event.
“It was amazing out there,” coach Mike Holloway said about Vucenovic in a release. “For her to go another two feet farther… that’s what we’re all about. I was really proud of her finish today.”
The final race of the evening was the women’s 4x400 preliminary. The Gators finished second out of 16 teams with a time of 3:29.45.
Overall, the women finished Thursday night with 10 points on the team leaderboard, tied for seventh place with Kent State and San Francisco.
“Really proud of the qualifying today,” Holloway said. “Looking forward to coming back out here on Saturday and getting after it again.”
The men’s track and field team will jump back into action on Friday beginning at 8:00 p.m. with the high jump final, featuring freshman Clayton Brown and sophomore Johnny Victor. UF enters the day ranked third on the team leaderboard with 18 points, only 13.5 points behind first-place Texas A&M.
The men’s team is looking to defend its national title at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
