UF fraternity house vandalized with phallic phrases

Beta Theta Pi Fraternity members woke up Thursday morning to find the letters of their house vandalized, again.

The fraternity’s Greek letters, which resemble the letters "B-O-N," are displayed diagonally along a white wall in black ink — with enough room for someone to add “ER” in spray paint next to them.

Sometime before Thursday morning someone did just that to the house on Fraternity Row, spelling “BONER.”

The phrase “DEEZ NUTZ” was also written on the far right of the wall.

UF spokesperson Steve Orlando said the fraternity contacted UF’s Sorority and Fraternity Affairs about the incident. The sign has been similarly vandalized in the past, but Orlando said he didn’t know when or how many times.

“There could be consequences in relations to vandalism,” he said. “There’s no indication that we know who did it.”

The fraternity’s president, Sean Murtha, declined to comment.

Homar Hernandez, a UF telecommunication freshman unaffiliated with the fraternity, said he saw the paint while waiting at the bus stop near the house at about 7:40 a.m.

The 18-year-old, who lives across the street from the house in Springs Residential Complex, said he saw similar vandalism in a previous semester in red paint.

When he returned to his residence hall at about 2 p.m., he said it looked like someone attempted to cover it up, but the black letters were still faintly visible.

“It kind of sucks for them,” he said.
