Two current Saturday Night Live cast members are bringing their comedy chops to the O’Connell Center for a free show March 22.
Accent Speakers Bureau is bringing Kenan Thompson and Michael Che, who will be paid a combined $100,000, Accent Chairman Mike Greenberg said. The two will each perform about 20 to 30 minutes of standup comedy, and then participate in a Q&A moderated by
New York Times culture writer Dave Itzkoff.
Greenberg said tickets won’t be required for the event, which will have a capacity of about 6,000 people. Thompson and Che will perform at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m.
He said he hopes the event will be fun and inspire future comedians.
“They’re two of the most well-known comedians, I think, from one of the most well-known shows that a lot of college students are watching,” Greenberg said.
Sarah Schramek, an 18-year-old Santa Fe High School student, said when she heard about the event, she immediately wanted to attend with her mom, who watches the show with her.
“I’ve watched it for quite a while, and it’d just be really interesting,” she said.
Analise Walker, a 19-year-old UF criminology and law freshman, said she’s watched SNL for seven years. She’s excited to see two of her favorite cast members come to UF.
“I just hope to enjoy some good comedy with some friends and have a lot of fun,” she said.
