In his debut Gainesville performance, City and Colour is playing at the Florida Theatre on Sunday.
Dallas Green, better known by his stage name City and Colour, is a Canadian singer-songwriter who plays acoustic and folk music. His alias is a play off of his own name. Dallas, a city, and Green, a color.
Doors of the venue, located at 233 W. University Ave., open at 7 p.m., with the show set to start at 8 p.m. Greyhounds, a band out of Austin, Texas, will open the show.
“It’s not often that you get to bring an artist of this caliber to Gainesville for a performance in an intimate venue such as Florida Theatre,” said Pat Lavery, the event’s promoter. “City and Colour typically plays much bigger venues around the world.”
Since 2005, City and Colour released five albums.
“It will be a very special show for the fans, playing songs from all albums, including a new EP, which was just release online,” Lavery said.
Belle Jampol, a 22-year-old UF advertising senior, first noticed the event on Facebook.
“His music is very simple,” she said. “He proves that all you really need is a voice and a guitar.”
Jampol saw City and Colour perform at Music Midtown in Atlanta last year. At the festival, he didn’t play one of her favorite songs called “The Girl.”
“I feel like I should bring a sign that says, ‘Play ‘The Girl,’’” she said.
Gainesville is one of the stops on City and Colour’s southeastern U.S. tour, which showcases his latest album, “If I Should Go Before You.” His tour began March 3 in Birmingham, Alabama, and wraps March 23 in Athens, Georgia.
“I am looking forward to what is sure to be a sell-out show,” Lavery said.
Tickets are $34 in advance and $37 the day of the show. They can be purchased on ticketfly.com, at Hear Again Records or at the High Dive Box Office.
