On the heels of two high-profile resignations in UF’s Multicultural and Diversity Affairs, the announcement of another came Monday.

After seven months on the job, Krystie Nguyen, the director of Asian Pacific Islander American Affairs, said Monday that her last day will be either March 16 or March 17.

The announcement came on the anniversary of APIA’s opening of an office in the Reitz Union.

Nguyen said the decision did not come easily, but she is now taking time for herself to heal.

“As I focus on how to move forward in this position, the reality is: I need to take some time for myself to heal in order to be the scholar practitioner I was meant to be in higher education,” Nguyen wrote in a resignation notice to the MCDA staff.

Nguyen’s resignation comes shortly after Black Affairs Director Vee Byrd and LGBTQ Affairs Director Roxie Patton left their positions in the past two weeks. Additionally, the former director of MCDA, Lloren Foster, was removed from his position in September.

UF spokesperson Janine Sikes said the executive director of MCDA, who is currently being chosen in a search process, will be in charge of building the leadership team back up.

“We were surprised by Krystie’s resignation and are wholly supportive of her choice to take care of herself,” Sikes said.
