UF’s School of Art + Art History is hosting its annual student showcase event, Art Bash, Friday evening.
Art Bash will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and it’s free and open to the public. The event will feature a wide variety of visual arts from UF students, faculty and local high-school artists, as well as special guests and live music.
There is a great deal of chatter among student artists as they work to put the finishing touches on their pieces for Friday night, said Sierra Marie Labra, a UF art freshman with a specialization in painting.
Labra ,18, said she first heard about Art Bash through her sculpture club and plans to attend the event.
“Honestly, I’m really excited for everyone out in the community to come in and see what UF is doing with art,” Labra said.
Art Bash offers something new each year, as art and art research is always changing, said Lisa Iglesias, the co-chair of the Art Bash committee. This year, the event will display artwork from P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School and Oak Hall School. This is just one of the many ways the Alachua County community has become involved in Art Bash.
“It’s a celebratory event,” the assistant professor said. “It’s about celebrating the breadth of disciplines at the college of art and art history. It’s really exciting to have a day where we have an open house event with the public.”
Additionally, Sumi Ink Club will be holding an artist talk and participatory workshop thanks to donations from School of Art + Art History alumnus Jean Koivu, her husband David and by the UF Art Education program.
