With one out in the top of the third inning, junior Nicole DeWitt stood in the batter's box.
For the Jacksonville Dolphins, having DeWitt up to bat was not ideal.
She entered the game boasting UF's third-best on-base percentage, and with one out, the bases were loaded.
DeWitt, who had seven hits in the first five games of the season, capitalized.
She drove the ball to left-center field, bringing home freshman Jaimie Hoover and senior Justine McLean, the first runs of the game.
From there, the Gators’ powerful hitting, as well as their defense, was on display as they dominated the Dolphins, winning 6-0 on Wednesday at the Pruitt Softball Complex in Jacksonville.
Florida is now 19-0 overall against Jacksonville and 34-1 versus in-state opponents since the start of 2014.
Pitching for the Gators was senior Delanie Gourley. A 2016 First-Team All American, her pitching prowess showed Wednesday evening. She allowed two hits and tallied eight strikeouts to capture her third win of the season.
Hoover also had an impressive game, making plays on both offense and defense. After nabbing a line-drive ball down third base in the bottom of the fourth to end the inning, she followed with a triple in the fifth inning.
She ended the game with two hits, one run and one RBI. Her triple was the first Florida has hit this season.
McLean also made stops on defense, stretching out to snatch a ball deep in left-center field in the bottom of the fifth. She had a pair of hits in the game.
But the Gators didn't score again until the sixth inning, when four more runs were added in part due to mistakes by the Dolphins.
After DeWitt and junior Kayli Kvistad were both walked and then advanced a base due to a pitching error, DeWitt was able to score on a wild pitch.
Then it was freshman Jordan Roberts who stepped up, hitting the sacrifice fly to send home Kvistad.
And two more singles came from redshirt freshman Sophia Reynoso and Hoover, with Reynoso stealing second base and then scoring off of a wild throw. They had the final hits of the evening, and Florida ended with six in total.
Florida (6-0), which was ranked Tuesday as the top team in the country, will aim to remain undefeated when it opens up home play this Friday against Northwestern State.
