This Friday, the High Dive will be hosting a free Art Attack event as part of Gainesville’s monthly artwalk. The event will run from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. and is open to the public. Twenty Gainesville artists will be showing and selling their work at this month’s Art Attack, and they will be accompanied by four local musicians performing laid-back, acoustic sets.
Art Attack is one of several free events associated with Artwalk Gainesville, a free monthly assembly of open gallery spaces and live music taking place in the downtown area. Artwalk Gainesville gives local artists, musicians and vendors venues to show and sell their work with no entry fees.
Gainesville resident Alix Mathia was involved with Artwalk Gainesville in the past, using it as an opportunity to sell jewelry she makes with recycled materials. However, this Friday at Art Attack she will be displaying her own original paintings at an artwalk event for the first time.
“This is not my first event with the Gainesville artwalk, but it is my first time showing my original art and paintings,” the 25-year-old said. “I would describe my art as emotional, colorful and personal. I consider this my heart’s work.”
Four Gainesville-based musicians will be performing at the Art Attack event. Gainesville indie rhythm and blues singer Tamira Rae, who performs under the stage name Rayya, will be making her debut artwalk appearance Friday.
“This will be my first artwalk performance,” Rae said. “It will be a laid back show filled with melodic tunes that are refreshing, intimate, and passionate.”
There is no cover fee to enter the venue, as is the case with all other Artwalk Gainesville-associated events going on Friday. More information on the Artwalk Gainesville as a whole can be found at artwalkgainesville.com.
