An email sent out Sunday to Impact Party student senators told them not to respond to questions from the Alligator regarding constituency requirements.
After a reporter sent out emails requesting comment from senators who had not documented their requirements, Impact Party Majority Leader Wayne Selogy sent out an email with the subject line “READ THIS NOW, SERIOUSLY VITAL.”
“If you receive an email from any alligator reporter do not respond,” Selogy wrote in the email, adding that senators should text him if contacted.
Student Government senators have to submit online forms proving they attended a required number of events for their constituent group by the beginning of Tuesday’s Student Senate meeting, wrote Rules and Ethics Committee chairwoman Isabella Muncan in an email. Of the 96 active senators, 51 have not turned in all of their reports as of press time, according to an email Muncan sent to all senators Sunday afternoon.
In the email and at Tuesday’s Senate meeting, Muncan expressed her disapproval with the number of senators who have not turned in their forms.
“I am very disappointed, because I know we are capable of so much more than that,” she wrote in Sunday’s email.
Selogy confirmed sending the email and said he was concerned about how senators would be represented, because constituency reports are not due yet.
“I simply recommended, as a leader of the party, they talk to me first,” he said.
Selogy said the only official way to document if senators have completed their requirements is online through GatorConnect, and Muncan’s email might not be up-to-date.
Muncan said the document sent to senators, which lists who had not turned in forms documenting requirements, was last updated Sunday morning.
“Senators can turn a form in up to a week after they attend an event,” she said.
