Students can find ways to cope with their end-of-semester stress at a workshop today.
UF’s Asian Pacific Islander American Affairs and GatorWell are hosting a stress-reduction workshop today to help students cope with stress.
The event, which starts at 5 p.m. in the Reitz Union APIA Affairs suite, will feature a presentation on techniques to deal with and limit stress, guided meditation practices and zumba.
Shalini Mirpuri, a UF marriage and family therapy master’s student and the APIA Affairs’ graduate assistant, said students can do small things to improve their health during finals week.
“This event is so important, because students often get so burnt-out at the end of the semester that other priorities start to slip,” the 25-year-old said. “Things like getting eight hours of sleep, regular meals and drinking eight glasses of water get put on the back burner.”
Under pressure of performing well in classes, Farwa Syed, a UF microbiology and cell science junior, said she finds herself neglecting her physical and mental well-being toward the end of the semester.
The 20-year-old said she is going to the workshop today to learn how to better take care of herself before her final exams.
“The best thing for me to do during finals week is to find opportunities where I can take care of myself by doing things that will alleviate my stress and worries,” she said.
