After seeing videos of the Mannequin Challenge appear on her social media accounts, Chelsea Ogugua said she wanted to get the UF Student Body involved in the craze.
The 22-year-old UF telecommunication senior is organizing an event on Turlington Plaza today at noon with the hope of it going viral.
The Mannequin Challenge is a trend in which people show a slice of life by freezing in place while someone videotapes the scene. Music is added before the video is posted to the Internet.
“It makes this really cool cinematic movie when you put music over it,” Ogugua said.
Ogugua said she originally wanted to do it with just a couple of close friends, but she realized it would be more fun to include her UF peers.
“I want to top all the ones I’ve been seeing,” she said, “so obviously it’s a challenge.”
As of press time, 180 people responded to Ogugua’s Facebook event saying they would be attending.
She said the Mannequin Challenge reflects the culture of the participants, like athletes posing with water bottles.
Amanda Corral, a 19-year-old UF sport management sophomore, said she decided to attend the event after a mutual friend joined the event page on Facebook.
“It’s something that’s going really viral, so it will be cool to see the Student Body do it,” she said.
