A co-founder of The Huffington Post will speak at UF next week.

Arianna Huffington will talk to an audience at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. as part of a collaboration between Accent Speakers Bureau and Student Government’s Women’s Affairs and Career Development cabinets, Accent chairman Mike Greenberg said. She is being paid $80,000.

Greenberg said Accent was looking for a speaker who could talk about entrepreneurship, business success and the changing technology landscape.

“She’s kind of the perfect speaker for all those topics we were looking to hit this year,” he said.

Huffington will speak about her experience as a woman in the corporate world, he said. She will also talk about Thrive Global, a new company she is launching that promotes health and wellness.

“She’s going to share a lot of lessons she’s learned from her successful life,” he said.

Wallace Mazon, 22, said he was impressed when he found out Accent will be hosting Huffington at UF.

“I think she has a lot to offer to the Student Body,” the UF African-American studies junior said.

Mazon, who reads The Huffington Post’s Black Voices section on a daily basis, said it is important to have speakers with different perspectives.

“I’m a big fan,” he said, “and I’m excited to hear what kind of questions students have for her, and I’m even more excited to hear how she answers them.”
