Shotgun-wielding man demands fixed phone

A Florida man demanded a local MetroPCS store fix his phone Monday — using a shotgun as a bargaining chip, Gainesville Police said.

At about 8:15 a.m. Monday, Wayne Mitchell Cannon, a 59-year-old resident of Bronson, Florida, approached the phone store at 3300 SW Archer Road, which was not open at the time, demanding someone repair his broken phone, according to a police report.

He was enraged, shouting at the store’s assistant manager, who told him to wait until the business opened, according to the report.

Cannon then went back to his car, grabbed the shotgun and returned to the store, pointing the weapon at its glass front door, according to the report. When a customer standing a few feet away noticed him wielding the weapon, Cannon told him, “You better move, they gonna fix my phone.”

Cannon never fired.

GPD officers found him sitting in his car in the store’s parking lot. Inside, they found the shotgun was empty, but a loaded revolver sat in the passenger seat, according to the report.

Cannon told police he was taking medication for anger management and that he just wanted MetroPCS to fix his phone. According to the report, while Cannon sat in a police car, he threatened the officers.

“When I get out, I’m going to kill every one of you,” he said.

Police arrested Cannon on charges of aggravated assault and carrying a concealed firearm without a license. Authorities took him to the Alachua County Jail where he remains, as of press time, in lieu of a $200,000 bond.
