University Police arrested three people Monday for attempting to steal bicycles around campus.
At about 12:40 a.m., a UPD officer stopped the trio near the intersection of Museum Road and Gale Lemerand Drive after noticing them riding bicycles without front or back lights, according to a police report.
The officer noticed the decal on the blue Glendale bicycle Cody Michael Perez, 19, of Daytona Beach, Florida, rode was registered to another person, according to the report.
Sherry Corine Ealum-Morgan, 26, of Chiefland, Florida, then told the officer the three came on campus specifically to steal bicycles, according to the report.
Inside the backpack of Lewis Joseph-Paul Dekle, 19, of Gainesville, the officer found bolt cutters and four cut cable locks, according to the report. The three said they used the bolt cutter in an attempt steal locked bicycles.
While searching Ealum-Morgan, he found a small plastic bag with about five grams of marijuana and a glass pipe in her bra, according to the report.
Police arrested them on a charge of petty theft between $100 and $300. Dekle received an additional charge of possessing burglary tools, and Ealum-Morgan received additional charges of possessing less than 20 grams of marijuana and drug equipment.
Authorities took the three to the Alachua County Jail where they remain, as of press time, in lieu of a $15,000 bond for Perez, a $19,000 bond for Ealum-Morgan and a $25,000 bond for Dekle.
