As Apple released its new iPhone 7 on Friday, a handful of eager students and residents circled a phone-filled table at the Archer Road Best Buy.
By the end of the day, the iPhone 7 Plus, one of two iPhone 7 models, had sold out, a sales representative said.
Some customers said they looked forward to the phone’s new features, like its water resistance, improved camera and touch-screen home button.
Anastasia Accarpio, a UF computer science freshman, said she was looking forward to the improved 12-megapixel camera and the home button change the most.
“I’m excited for the technology ‘cause I know a lot about it, and I do a lot of research,” the 18-year-old said.
Noah Guisuraga, a high-school student from New York, said he was excited to purchase the phone despite Apple’s decision to not include a headphone jack, a move many have criticized since the company’s announcement.
“I feel like they didn’t need to change it or anything,” the 17-year-old said, “but they felt like it’d be better without a jack.”
Morgan Sutton, 21, a UF political science senior, said she was most looking forward to the phone’s water resistance.
But if it weren’t free for her to upgrade to the iPhone 7, she said she probably would not have purchased it. She said Apple did not offer enough new features to warrant a big-ticket buy like that.
“It’s free, that’s why I did it,” Sutton said.
