The Gainesville Regional Transit System changes its schedule in accordance with the collegiate semesters, making the Summer semester more limited for bus riders.
Many routes, such as the 118, 121 and Later Gator routes D and F, go on vacation and will not run during the Summer semester, wrote Chip Skinner, the marketing and communications supervisor for RTS, in an email.
Route 9, which goes from the Reitz Union to Hunters Run Apartments, will run every 22 minutes instead of every 10 minutes and will stop running at 5:26 p.m.
Schedules are changed due to funding partners cutting back during the summer months as there are fewer college students, and workers on the UF and Santa Fe campuses, Skinner wrote.
Other routes with reduced services include route 10, which will run every 70 minutes, and route 34, which will run every 50 minutes.
RTS receives some complaints for the Summer changes. “Those that are veterans of the bus system know that these semester changes occur and plan for them,” Skinner wrote. Although she has to wake up about an hour earlier to catch routes 9 or 35 from Lexington Crossing to campus, Debbie Diep, a 20-year-old UF psychology junior, is adapting to the schedule changes.
“I have to wait about 20 minutes longer on campus, but there are less people on the bus,” she said. “It never gets full.”
