Thousands of books will go on sale Saturday, but a line will begin for the Friends of the Library’s Spring 2016 Book Sale on Thursday night, said P.j. van Blokland, a sorter for the organization and a professor in the UF Food and Resource Economics Department.
The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday.
Tuesday is half-price day, and Wednesday is 10-cent day. Prices generally range from 25 cents to $4, according to the website.
Aside from books, the sale will also include DVDs, posters, records, comic books, paintings and other materials, van Blokland said.
“We will probably get somewhere around $130,000 to $150,000 from the sales, and there’s a lot of books,” he said.
Friends of the Library hosts two large book sales each year, he said, and the profits are split among Alachua County’s libraries.
“What’s nice about it is that there’s a lot of old people coming, but there’s a lot of young people also,” van Blokland said.
Gabriel Vasquez-Peterson, a 19-year-old UF English sophomore, visited the sale last year and said he is excited to go again.
“Everything’s pretty cheap, and whenever I go I always end up getting more books than I intended to,” he said.
