UF and UF Health now rank within the top 100 places to work for.
Forbes released its ranking of America’s Best Employers of 2016 on Wednesday. UF moved up to No. 90 from No. 154 last year and UF Health moved up to No. 89 from No. 121.
David Guzick, the president of UF Health, said UF Health moved up in the rankings due to the relationships employees build with their patients.
“We focus on the patient, and everybody knows that’s our common goal: to create a sense of connectedness,” Guzick said.
Guzick said he was honored to be ranked in the top 100.
“Here we are, a little health care system, so it’s really remarkable because there are so many different employers,” Guzick said.
Jessica Harland-Jacobs, an associate professor for the department of history, said she likes working at UF because of the diverse Student Body.
“We have a really good range of students here from different kinds of backgrounds, different training,” she said. “So I think it’s really an excellent public university in that sense.” But Harland-Jacobs said she thinks UF could improve in some areas.
She said one of the main issues is that faculty members don’t receive regular raises with regards to cost of living or based on merit.
“I think that the general climate at UF is very positive, and we are able to do our jobs in many productive ways, but there is also room for improvement as well,” she said.
