A Gainesville man was arrested Tuesday after police said he hid more than a pound of cocaine in the trunk of his car.

At about 9 a.m., police with the Alachua County Drug Task Force stopped Demetrious O. Huston, 45, on State Road 93 for closely following another vehicle, according to a police report.

Huston told police he was only driving seven miles per hour over the 70-mph speed limit, according to the report.

He refused a search of his car, but a police dog smelled drugs, giving authorities probable cause to inspect the vehicle, according to the report.

Police found a sealed bag containing about 1.12 pounds — 508 grams — of cocaine in the trunk, according to the report.

Two other plastic bags concealed the bag of cocaine, all of which Huston hid under the spare-tire compartment, according to the report.

He later accused police of planting the drugs in his trunk, according to the report. He did not make any other comments.

Police arrested Huston on a charge of trafficking cocaine, a first-degree felony.

Authorities took him to the Alachua County Jail where, as of press time, he remains in lieu of a $1 million bond.
