Comedian Trevor Noah is coming to UF.
Noah, who hosts “The Daily Show,” will speak at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on March 30 at 8 p.m., said Kevin Gerson, the chairman of UF’s Accent Speakers Bureau. Noah will be paid $90,000 to perform stand-up comedy and answer questions.
Gerson said students have requested Noah since he took over “The Daily Show” in September 2015. Accent has been planning to bring him since the beginning of this semester.
Noah, 32, has an incredible story, having grown up in South Africa’s apartheid with a black mother and white father, he said.
“He grew up in a world where free speech was illegal, where stand-up comedy was illegal,” Gerson said.
The event is free for both students and the general public, he said. Students with their Gator 1 Cards can get two tickets at noon March 29. If tickets are left over, the general public can get up to two tickets starting at noon March 30. Tickets will be available at the Phillips Center Box Office.
Carlos Suhr, a UF aerospace engineering sophomore, said he is excited to see a comedian come to UF.
“I wanted UF to bring a comedian to campus,” the 20-year-old said.
He said he saw the event on Facebook and knew he would go.
“I just think that he’s a pretty good comedian,” he said.
