The attorney for Gators wide receiver Antonio Callaway said he expects the sophomore wideout to return to the team because the suspension against Callaway has no basis.
As first reported by the Palm Beach Post, Callaway’s attorney, Huntley Johnson, said in a news release that Callaway was suspended on Jan. 27 due to a violation of the UF Student Code of Conduct. Johnson added that the allegations against Callaway have no merit.
Florida coach Jim McElwain said on Tuesday that both Callaway and Treon Harris haven’t been around the team since January. McElwain didn’t mention if both of them were suspended, but a UF spokesman confirmed that they were.
Callaway had a breakout freshman season for Florida. He broke Reidel Anthony’s true freshman receiving yardage record, with a team-leading 678 receiving yards on 35 receptions, while adding four touchdowns.
