Ashley Francois, a 20-year-old UF plant science junior, speaks with Ryan Wicks, a 20-year-old UF mechanical engineering junior running as an Access Party candidate for the College of Engineering Senate seat on Turlington Plaza on Tuesday. Francois said she wished there were more printing labs spread out around campus.

On her way to the new entrance of the Reitz Union, Emily DiRoma stopped to scribble the word “Food” on a chalkboard.

“I really want a waffle place,” the 21-year-old UF advertising senior said.

On Tuesday, candidates and volunteers for Student Government’s Access Party and Impact Party stood near the Reitz Union and on Turlington Plaza, asking for students’ input as part of platform generation.

DiRoma said she loves breakfast food, but on-campus dining is limited. She wrote on Impact’s chalkboard in blue chalk.

“The diversity of food on campus needs to be updated,” she said.

Trevor Schaettle, 19, worked with Impact to hear from students.

“We’re really looking to the students’ ideas and passion for campus,” the UF history sophomore said.

Kevin Jarquin, 18, said he told an Access member his idea for creating more frequent buses.

“Let’s say you miss a bus on the corner. Then you have to wait another 30 minutes,” the UF business administration freshman said. “It’s just a hassle.”

Shayli Patel stood in the shade near Weimer Hall, offering students a pen. Students want to improve parking and the Student Nighttime Auxiliary Patrol program, she said.

“I think it’s really important that Student Government achieves the things that the students really want,” the 19-year-old UF economics freshman said.

Platform generation will continue today at the Reitz Union and on Turlington Plaza. Access will continue from 9 a.m. to  4 p.m. and Impact from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
