Congratulations, you have a Valentine! No matter if it’s a familiar face or a new flame, it’s hard not to take advantage of the holiday and be a little more lovey-dovey with your cherie amour than usual. As anti-consumerist as you may be, admit it: You’re kind of excited. This Valentine’s Day, skip TGI Fridays and find some fun, unconventional plans to do with your Valentine. Here are a few suggestions on making this year’s V-Day a little less cheesy and a little more memorable.
If y’all like the outdoors:
• Grab some Pub subs and have a picnic at Lake Alice, Lake Wauburg or anywhere with some grass. Watch out for squirrels!
• Go on a hike around Paynes Prairie or Devil’s Millhopper and hydrate with some Hyppo pops after.
• Have a barbecue or a bonfire. End the night with some s’mores.
If ya’ll like the indoors:
• Head to BuzzFeed or Tasty and find some yummy dishes to make together.
• Play bartender and create some cool cocktails; add a drinking game, and you’re in for a fun night.
• Make them a scavenger hunt of little things they like around your apartment.
• You’ve heard of Netflix and chill, but have you ever heard of Netflix and pillow fort?
If y’all think it’s great
to be a Florida Gator:
• Head to the Florida vs. Alabama basketball game Saturday and cheer on the Orange and Blue.
• Support the arts! UF’s School of Theatre and Dance is having its “Dance 2016: Worlds Apart” concert in the Black Box Theatre in the Nadine M. McGuire Theatre and Dance Pavilion.
• Go to the Wiz Khalifa concert today, because you waited in line for an hour and you deserve it.
• Spend Valentine’s eve at the Florida Museum of Natural History and play some trivia; the winning team gets a prize!
• Watch the UF Carillon in its “Sunday Afternoon Concert Series” at 3 p.m. by Century Tower. Blankets are encouraged.
• Study at your favorite library or coffee shop because you both have midterms coming up and plan on celebrating next weekend. (Bonus: Surprise your Valentine with his or her favorite snack.)
If y’all like downtown:
• Go old-school with your s/o and head to Barcade for a friendly arcade tournament. The loser buys the next round of drinks.
• Watch a show! The Hippodrome State Theatre is presenting "The Vagina Monologues" this weekend.
• Have a gameboard showdown at Maude’s Classic Cafe with some wine, coffee or both.
• Go to the bars you’ve never gone to, like Whiskey House or 2nd Street Speakeasy.
• Get to The Top early so you can finally get to have dinner and drinks without waiting two hours.
If y’all like Midtown:
• Why would you go to Midtown for Valentine’s Day?
If y’all like adventures
and road trips:
• Watch the sunset at Cedar Key.
• Walk around the Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine.
• Head to the Daytona Beach Boardwalk and have some cotton candy.
• Go for some laser tag at Adventure Landing in Jacksonville.
If y’all are in an LDR
(I feel your pain):
• Order each other a meal and watch a movie together in bed.
• Play a virtual drinking game! Play a relationship questionnaire, and for every wrong answer, you drink.
• Find a restaurant with Wi-Fi and go for dinner! It’s not like you don’t use your phone while you’re out for dinner anyway.
• Send them movie tickets, a gift card or an itinerary for a raincheck V-Day.
