A steady stream of students showed up to interview with Student Government parties Monday morning.
Erica Baker, UF supervisor of elections, said 147 students interviewed with an SG party, with 23 students interviewing for the Access Party and 124 students interviewing for the Impact Party.
Last Spring, 275 students interviewed with an SG party on the second day of sign-up, according to Alligator archives.
Jamie Somerstein, 18, interviewed with Impact for a sophomore Senate seat.
She said she chose Impact because she wants to make a difference on campus.
“I wanted to make sure every student feels like they have an equal opportunity to change a little piece of this campus,” the UF public relations freshman said.
Peter Ong, 20, showed up in blue scrubs, using his few minutes of spare time to interview with Access.
The UF food science and human nutrition junior interviewed for a seat in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
He said he helped campaign with the Swamp Party his freshman year but felt students involved with Greek life had an unfair advantage.
“My own personal values align with (Access’),” he said.
The final day of interviews takes place today at the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
